Volume 3 ~The Tournament’s Participants~
The participants for the main tournament were all present. The news spread through the Elf Territory and became all that was discussed.
Of course, Nikola and the others also heard the news. Nikola and Alice closed themselves off in the inn to thoroughly study information of each participant.
“The chosen eight people are more or less as we predicted.”
The participants listed were all strong candidates including Kerun. Many of them were people whose names were already famous even when Alice was just a princess. It made her clench her hands in nervousness.
“Hey, why the hell is that bastard Jein also participating!”
“Jein-san, is it? If I’m not wrong, he’s someone who barely made it in time to rise to the seventh ranking just like us. Is he someone you know?”
“He’s the man I hate the most.”
“For sensei to say that much…”
“It’s a man you should also know. After all, he’s the former Hero.”
“Eh! That person, he’s the famous hero Jein? No, rather than that, although he’s a former one, he was a Hero so he must be quite powerful.”
“Apparently, he was weakened from getting his fighting spirit stolen, but he’s still a top-class warrior. It’s already on the level of cheating to have someone like him participate, but I’m happy he decided to do that. Finally, I’ve my chance to get my revenge on him.”
Jein was a man with huge pride. Rather than Nikola directly giving his just desert, he could give him more humiliation if the weak-looking Alice defeated him. His mouth showed a smile from the great opportunity.
“Definitely win against Jein. Win no matter what cheap tricks you have to use.”
“Y-Yes. So, I should fight like usual, right?”
“Give your all to cowardliness, even more than usual. Or rather, go and mix poison to his meal. I permit you.”
“A-As expected, I can’t do that much.”
Alice looked at the tournament’s list on her hand and confirmed Jein’s and her spots. They were placed on the opposite block.
“According to the list, I’m going to fight Sir Hero in the final.”
“He’s definitely going to climb up until the final. That’s why you can’t lose until then.”
“I need to win the first match first.”
Alice confirmed her first opponent from the list. It was a high elf who was second in the rankings, a man who used to be the knight leader of the knight brigade.
“Do you know this man?”
“He’s Shura-san. I know him well. He’s someone who used to be my bodyguard often.”
“Can you win?”
“I have no chance if we fight directly. That’s why I need to think of a strategy.”
The Shura Alice knew was a man who dexterously used two swords, and his elegant swordplay was known as the best in the country.
“Does he have any weaknesses?”
“It’s not a weakness, but I’ve heard that he shows his true strength when he pairs up with Karla, his twin. I’m fortunate that I’m only facing one of them.”
The combination of Shura and Karla showed a high level of coordination like they were reading each other’s minds. Alice was thankful they couldn’t use that technique.
“Summarizing it, the opponent is a twin-sword swordsman and his way of fighting is mainstream and has no gap.”
“It’s troublesome because he doesn’t have any clear weakness.”
“To make a plan, I want you to have as many tools as possible. Have you been able to use that magic?”
Alice shook her head to the side. The magic Nikola mentioned was the one scribbled on the magic tome prize of the fighting event.
“Its magic is so powerful that it’s a mystery how it became a prize. We have to find someone who can help you be able to use it before the tournament.”
“I hope so…”
“You’re unusually pessimistic about this.”
“Actually, I’ve researched about eastern magic, but it seems it’s completely different from the magic that we from the west use.”
“It’s that different?”
“Yes. Western magic tomes mainly can be used by anyone after being read, but most eastern magic needs time to be trained. They said that a talentless person once took a year.”
“So in exchange for being hard to learn, you get a powerful power, huh. However, nothing will start if you only complain. Training it is.”
Alice started her training to use eastern magic. Next to her, Nikola kept thinking of a strategy to defeat Shura.
